Which Face Will The Wily Doctor Reveal To You?
The mysterious traveling circus of Dr. Lao has come to the dusty Arizona town of Abalone. Everyone turns out for the magical event. None of them realize the circus they're attending is in their own minds.
The greed, vanity and pettiness of Abalone's citizenry gets an unexpected makeover, thanks to the life-altering showmanship of the venerable (7322 years young in October!) Chinese impresario Lao. George Pal guides this beloved, imaginative fable which received an honorary Oscar for the makeup wizardry of William Tuttle. And "in what may be the finest performance in a fantasy film" (Danny Peary, Guide For The Film Fanatic), Tony Randall plays Lao and his multitude of faces. Step inside the tent...and marvel.

A Visit to Dr. Lao's Mysterious Magical Circus - 3.25 out of 5 (4/30/2003)
Many people have not had the pleasure of seeing this wonderful magical film. It's a "Saturday Matinee" type of movie that is for the whole family. Tony Randall does an outstanding job of playing the many odd creatures that inhabit the circus of Dr. Lao. People who enter his circus, don't always leave as same person that they were previously. Not only entertaining, Dr. Lao's circus has a life changing message for those who stop to listen. The special effects may be a little dated, but they are st

It's Magic When The Circus Comes To Town! - 3 out of 5 (11/7/2001)
Finding this film was like finding one of my childhood's favorite toys. Dr. Lao was a magical treat way back then, and still is today.
This movie is filled with recognizable faces. The story is a blessing from an age before carnage and gratuitous nudity, and is quite the special effects bonanza considering it was released in 1963! Every member of the family will enjoy this movie, and when it's over you'll be left feeling good and wearing a smile.
Undoubtedly one (or seven!) of Tony Rand
